News from the Guidance Department:.

 

  • Guidance is letting us know about an ACT tutoring opportunity hosted by La Tech University Saturday, March 30th from 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM at the Louisiana Tech Integrated Engineering and Science Building (IESB) See Guidance for more information

  • The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Scholarship is now available for black female seniors at WMHS who have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA and an ACT Score of 20/SAT 980. The deadline to apply is April 2, 2024. For more details and additional scholarship requirements, please grab a copy of this scholarship application at the Guidance office or online at gorebs.org.

  • If anyone is interested in taking Drivers Ed come see Coach Osborne in the gym 1-3 periods for information.

  • Dual Enrollment applications are now available for anyone interested in taking a dual enrollment class NEXT year. Any student planning on taking a DE course next year MUST complete this packet. Simply signing up on your course request form will not place you in a DE class. This application is for new students to dual enrollment and students currently enrolled. You may pick up a packet from any of the following teachers: Aswell, Ashley Walker, Gulde, Rawls, Garvin, Eason, Etzel, Harris, Reynolds, and Knox. As a reminder, Ouachita Parish School Board plans on paying for 2 courses per semester for seniors and one per semester for juniors. All additional 3 hr courses are $300 for the 2024-2025 school year. The application deadline is no later than Wednesday, April 3. This includes the ULM online application. Any student who is only taking a course through LA TECH will complete the paper portion only and will complete the online portion in the fall. All of this information can be found in the current dual enrollment packet.

Sports News: 

 

  • Baseball took on the chiefs of West Ouachita last night and won 7-0. John Pearson added a triple to the stat line and scored twice and Tyler Roark made his debut this week off of injury to find himself adding a homerun to his stat sheet! Bradyn Cupit picked up the win with 11 strikeouts over 5 innings, allowing one hit. Gage Car and Trey Hawsey came in as relief and both picked up 2 strikeouts. They will play at West Ouachita tomorrow

  • Softball will be in the Quitman Tournament this weekend. Today, they will take on Claiborne Christian at 4. Tomorrow, they will play Sulphur at 11 am and Quitman at 3 PM 

  • Golf they’ll cap off the regular season with a tournament at Black Bear next Wednesday during Spring Break.

  • This weekend, our Rebels and Lady Rebels powerlifting compete for the State Championship in Lafayette! Today, the girls compete and lifting starts at 10. Tomorrow, the boys will also start at 10.

  • Track competed in the Hoss Garrett Relays in Ruston Last night. Our boys took fifth overall and our girls took fourth. This was out of 23 teams competing. For the Medal winners On the boys side, our 4x800 took silver with David Terry, Mason Johnson, Landon Spears, and Grayson Deutscher. Landon Spears took bronze in the Mile. Tytan Johnson took bronze in the 800 meter run. Ty George took third place in the Shot put, and Jaxson Talley took gold in the Javelin. Jaxson is currently second in the state with his marks so far in javelin this season, and Tytan Johnson is currently 10th in the state in the 800 meter. For the medal winners on the girls side, De’siree Boyett took gold in the 2 mile run, and Ainsten Dunn took silver in the 2 mile run. And Charlotte Switzer took gold in the long jump. Track will have their home meet, the Jack Williams Relays, on the thursday after spring break. This will be a great opportunity to come see these athletes perform!  

  • Tennis will be back in action after spring break when they play host to Caldwell.

Club and Organization News:

 

  • Tryout days for Rebeline are April 3rd and 4th at 3:30- 1st floor of Edgewood . Candidates for Rebeline should return packets including all documents on the first day of tryouts, April 3rd in Edgewood at 3:30. If you have any questions, please see Miss Tubbs in room 4109 during 3rd lunch shift or during 6th period only.

  • Powder Puff Football is BACK!! It will be on Tuesday, April 9th @ 6pm @ Rebel Stadium. Buy your tickets now to either participate or to cheer on your friends! Tickets are sold via GoFans. Participant tickets will only be sold through March 20th. Spectator tickets will be sold from now until the night of the game.  Flyers for Powder Puff are posted around campus with the QR code linked to our GoFans page. Find a Student Council member, Cheerleader, or Raider to get the access code to purchase your ticket!

  • Our window for purchasing a yearbook is about to close. Be sure to go to Balfour.com, choose West Monroe High School and order your yearbook today. If you are an Eagle Scout, please send a picture of yourself in uniform (preferably from your pinning ceremony) to karen.wise@opsb.net. This year we are including a special page in the yearbook to honor those who have reached the rank of Eagle Scout. The yearbook staff is seeking some additional pictures to complete the yearbook.  Specifically, we are looking for more pictures from Volleyball, the homecoming dance, the Valentine's dance, Powerlifting, Interact, and Golf. If you have some pictures from any of these events that you would like to share, please send them to karen.wise@opsb.net or send them to the yearbook Instagram page. (wmhsrebelyearbook)
